1. New friends, new listings, and a FEATURED FAN PHOTO!

    Hey everyone!

Here’s our May update! We’re off to an exciting start this May with the beginning of craft fair season!

Woo hoo! We had a great time at the Indie Craft Fair in Sacramento and met some cool new people. Here’s our new friend Colleen and her beautiful creations:

    iolaviola designs by Colleen Burke-Pitts

“I make terrariums for homes, weddings, parties, and other special
events. These low-maintenance table top and hanging gardens make
wonderful gifts that will bring life to your surroundings.  I also
love making corsages and centerpieces.  I use tillandsia, also known
as air plants, succulents, preserved reindeer moss, glass, and cholla
    wood.”

Rock on lady! They are set to have an etsy launch later this month. We’ll keep you updated on how to acquire these beautiful creations.

Speaking of beautiful creations: do you remember our super successful contest last month? Well, we are proud to announce that “In Orbit” is now available in our online store! And remember to measure yourself and use our sizing guide when making your online purchases!

Later this week we will be launching our fourth YOU NAME IT contest! Keep your eyes out for some new pictures on our FACEBOOK, and let us know what you think it should be called.

Lastly, we’re looking to participate in as many craft fairs and music festivals as possible. We’re currently waiting to hear back from a few of them, but let us know what craft fairs and music festivals are in your area and maybe we will see you there!

here at Hoof and Horn Leather and we’re excited to let you know all about it.

#1 Music festival season is coming up!

That’s right, friends! There are tons of music festivals coming up and we are in the process of applying. Production is soaring through the roof! We’re super excited to hear new music, meet new people, and to match folks up with beautiful handmade creations. What’s your favorite music festival? Let us know! Maybe we’ll see you there. :)

#2 The birth of a new design!

Yes sir! We had our third “You Name It” contest which was a wonderful success! We had fantastic names flowing in up until the last minute. It was difficult to choose but we were captured by Misha Garnier’s celestial idea and decided to call our new design “In Orbit”. We at Hoof and Horn would love to recognize the creative mind behind the name:

So there you have it, folks! Another update from your friendly, neighborhood leather-crafting company. “In Orbit” will be available in our online store soon, so keep a lookout! Thanks again to all who participated in our contest! Another one is on the horizon, so keep checking our Facebook page!

  3. Hoof and Horn is heating things up!

Hey everyone! Hope you all are beating the winter weather (especially those of you currently braving some intense snow storms). Let’s warm up by thinking about what’s heating things up at Hoof and Horn Leather!

The first thing: our new brander! Today we officially placed our order for a brander from Brand New Industries. It was an absolutely pleasant experience with excellent customer service. Here are the images of the new brands:

Needless to say the actual brands will be a lot smaller (the first one being 1/2” tall and the second being 1” tall). We’re really proud of our brands and we look forward to incorporating them into current and future wears. Keep and eye out for our logos!

Next thing keeping us warm are thoughts about summer festivals. During our last meeting, we talked about what our goals were for the year and a common theme was that we wanted to be out meeting people and be having fun along the way. So we are going to be vending at a music festival this year in California, but we’re not quite sure about which one yet. We’re considering High Sierra in Quincey, the Health and Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, and some others, but we’d really like to hear from you. What are some fun festivals in California that you all go to? Let us know! :)

Lastly, we’d thought that we could give you all another opportunity to have your voices heard. Even though we are still in the midst of “YOU-NAME-IT” Contest #2, we thought it might be fun to have you send your pictures of our stuff.

That’s right. We want you to put your photography skills to the test. Please post a picture to our Facebook Page of you wearing something from Hoof and Horn. Bust out those bracelets, guitar straps, key chains, headbands and other wears and strike a pose! The top three pictures will be chosen and posted to our website’s gallery. Please, no X-rated photos as we will be publishing these on our website. You get points for creativity (be that humor, unique location, or sheer artistry), so show us what you’re made of.

Thanks for reading, y’all! Keep checking back for the latest from Hoof and Horn Leather!

  4. New interns, New looks, New contest!

Hey everyone! Hope you had a happy new year. Here at Hoof and Horn, we decided to start the year off with a bang!

First off, we’re excited to officially announce the expansion of our Hoof and Horn family. No, no one had a baby (Scout is still our little mascot), but we did welcome a new intern: Kelson Harrel!

Kelson is our star intern at the moment. Slowly working his way up the way the rest of the gang did, this 17 year-old intern from Ceres, California just earned his first installment of tools and personal leather supply. Kelson’s life in leather started several years ago when he took interest in leather at our annual Mendocino workshop. Each year he would come back and take our class and excel, but he needed some fine tuning. And that’s what we are learnin’ him to do now. Besides the leatherwork hobby, Kelson likes punk music, theatre teching, and a good party. We are looking forward to the day where he can train an intern for us and maybe even bringing him on full time!!

    WELCOME KELSON!

Who knew this kid would end up becoming such a kick-ass intern? Let me just say, I had faith from the early years.

Alright, let’s keep this rollin’. Next up, we’d like to announce that there are several new items in our ONLINE STORE. We’ve been kicking ass and taking names coming up with new designs for the new year! Here’s a little a taste of what we’re serving:

NEXT UP: “YOU NAME IT” CONTEST

First of all, thank you everyone who participated in last month’s contest. It was a difficult decision, but we found that the Magic Helix was too magical a name to ignore. Matthew Roger’s beautiful interpretation of our design was simply inspiring. We hope to have the Magic Helix up in our online store soon! Stay tuned!

Looking for another chance to share your creativity with your favorite non-corporate, environmentally-conscious leather-crafting company? Well here’s your chance:

    “YOU NAME IT” CONTEST #2

This triple banded bracelet is attached in the back with a single snap. It comes in brown black or butterscotch leather and the embellishments come in brass as well as silver.

You name it you win it! We will reveal the winner February 1st. Get going, y’all!

So, here’s to a great start to 2012! Cheers!

  5. Shirts and (work)shops

    Hey everyone!

So Tiffany had the awesome idea of getting us some official Hoof and Horn t-shirts. We’ve actually been toying around with this idea for some time now, but she made it a reality. She did an awesome job of screen printing our logo. Super talented lady, right? Here’s a photo montage of the process:

WOOHOO!! I love my shirt soo much! Thanks Tiff!

Alright, another exciting thing is that we’re starting to have some private workshops. Our friends are coming over to get some extra help on personal projects.

If any of you are interested in learning more about the process of making your products, contact us and we’d love to collaborate with you to make something special. But that offer comes with the warning that our adorable 16-month-old mascot may be lurking in the shadows of the studio.

She may look harmless. But she’s a fierce little one.

  6. Dr. House plays at Hardly Strictly, holiday deals, and our first ever YOU-NAME-IT contest

Hey y’all! Lots happening here on the home front. We’ve been enjoying seeing you out an about at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and ArtMurmur!

We had a blast listening to some awesome jams at Hardly Strictly. We loved listening to the range of talent the festival had to offer: from Emmylou Harris to John Prine to Bela Flek to Dr. House (HUGH LAURIE!). Let us know who your favorites were!

Art Murmur is always a good time. We love seeing the regulars and meeting new people, too.

As the holidays are coming up, we thought we’d extend an online discount to you all. If you order between now and the new year, you will receive 10% off your order by entering the code WINTER2012. Happy holiday shopping! Support independent artists this season.

ANNOUNCEMENT: HOOF AND HORN’S FIRST YOU-NAME-IT CONTEST!!!!!!!

That’s right. We have a new design and are letting our fans have a chance to name it. We plan on letting this be a semi-regular occurrence because we want to stay connected to you guys and want to hear what you all have to say. So here’s the first design:

It could be available in black, brown, or butterscotch and in different gem colors (pictured here in pink). Let us know what you think it should be called! On December 20th, Hoof and Horn will announce the winner and that winner will either get the YOU-NAME-IT product or will get 20% off their next purchase. So put your creativity cap on and let your voice be heard. Comment on our blog or let us know by posting to our Facebook page.

Catch ya on the flip side!

  7. Here come the holidays!

Hey y’all! It’s been a while, we know. We’ve been busy little bees and have not had a chance to keep up. We’re gonna be better at that. We missed you, too!

So anyway, the holidays are coming up and we have some exciting new designs coming out. Our first announcement is a new product line called “The Chrononaut Series.”

    We got “The Ladybird”

    “The Gatsby”

    And “The Ulysses”

They will be on cuffs in black, brown, or butterscotch. We’ll announce when these designs are available in the online store, and where you can find these designs locally (for those of you in the Bay Area and in Iowa City). Pictures will be posted as soon as possible. I know it’s a bit early to be talking holidays, but we were just so excited to share these with you!

    Hey everyone!

Sorry we’ve been MIA. Lots of work, lots of fun! Alright: RECAP!

So we had a blast at the Lexicon Collective’s Beyond the Hemline. Hoof and Horn was paired with White Rabbit in creating awesome new looks!

Here are some of the models:

We’ll get more pictures up as we get them.

We had a custom guitar strap that was up for auction, too! Our item was the most bid on item in the silent auction!!! Pictures of the guitar strap with its new owner will be up soon!

It was such a great night of fashion, fun, and music. We look forward to maybe it happening again next year!

Let us know what you thought of the event!

One more thing: White Rabbit is moving… across the street! They got a new space that is three times bigger. That means more Hoof and Horn stuff. They asked all of their artists to increase the inventory for their Grand Opening on July 1st!

Check back for more updates! See ya leather lovers!
